- Promoting proper waste management of used sanitary pads by the following:
- STEP 1: Segregation at source
- To make people aware of segregating waste into 3 parts-
- Wet waste 2. Dry waste 3. “Menstrual waste”
- To make people aware of segregating waste into 3 parts-
- STEP 2: Separate partition in garbage collection vehicles
- Door-to-door collection vehicles will have a separate partition in which used menstrual pads will be disposed of.
- STEP 3: Dropping menstrual waste at bio-medical waste collection centre
- The collected pads will be transferred to the nearest “Bio-medical waste facility” or “Bio-medical waste collection centre” instead of disposing them along with other waste collected from various sources in the district. In the Bio-medical Waste Facility/collection centre the menstrual waste in the form of sanitary napkins, tampons, etc. will be incinerated.

Distribution of bio-degradable sanitary pads
- Target – 1 lakh
- Already distributed approximately 25000 biodegradable sanitary pads across remote villages and cities in Uttarakhand
Setting up of cloth pad manufacturing unit with SHGs
- SHG groups have been identified
- The process has been finalised
- Next steps: Training of SHG members and setting up unit
