  1. Promoting proper waste management of used sanitary pads by the following:
    1. STEP 1: Segregation at source
      • To make people aware of segregating waste into 3 parts-
        1. Wet waste 2. Dry waste 3. “Menstrual waste”
    2. STEP 2: Separate partition in garbage collection vehicles
      • Door-to-door collection vehicles will have a separate partition in which used menstrual pads will be disposed of.
    3. STEP 3: Dropping menstrual waste at bio-medical waste collection centre 
      • The collected pads will be transferred to the nearest “Bio-medical waste facility” or “Bio-medical waste collection centre” instead of disposing them along with other waste collected from various sources in the district. In the Bio-medical Waste Facility/collection centre the menstrual waste in the form of sanitary napkins, tampons, etc. will be incinerated.

Distribution of bio-degradable sanitary pads

  1. Target – 1 lakh
  2. Already distributed approximately 25000 biodegradable sanitary pads across remote villages and cities in Uttarakhand

Setting up of cloth pad manufacturing unit with SHGs

  1. SHG groups have been identified
  2. The process has been finalised
  3. Next steps: Training of SHG members and setting up unit
